Teresa Chahine

Teresa Chahine MSN, RN, PMHNP-BC

President

Teresa Chahine is a native of Havana, Cuba and was raised in Detroit, Michigan. She recalls the struggles in youth with English as a second language, childhood losses and feeling caught between two cultures but not quite one or the other.  She is serving as NAHN-MI Chapter President during the 2024 to 2026 term.  She received her Bachelor's and Master's degree in Nursing from Wayne State University in Detroit. She is a board certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with 30-plus years experience in the mental health field, including working in inpatient, outpatient and crisis psychiatric facilities. Teresa Chahine uses Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive-Behavioral strategies, and Mindfulness-based interventions. Treatment is patient-center and provides skill based approaches alongside medication management to optimize outcomes. Teresa also applies resilience, narrative and creative therapy as treatment modalities.

Teresa Chahine co-leads a $2 million HRSA Nursing Workforce Diversity Grant for Oakland University with the goal of increasing nursing progression and graduation rates as well as retention in practice for students who are from diverse and/or disadvantaged backgrounds-specifically individuals from racial and ethnic minorities underrepresented among nurses.  She received the NAHN 2025 Janie Menchaca Wilson Leadership Award, and is also the recipient of the Shadow of Influence Award for Henry Ford Health System Teresa is also recognized as part of the leadership team and recipient of the 2025 DAISY Team Award for Nurses Advancing Health Equity!" She holds a full-time faculty position at Oakland University's School of Nursing.

Kimberly Holka

Kimberly Holka DNP, MSN, MSA, RN, APHN-BC, CNE

President-Elect

Dr. Kimberly Holka is an Advanced Public Health Nurse and Certified Nurse Educator through the National League of Nursing.  Kim is a second generation nurse, following in her mother's footsteps. She is NAHN-MI Chapter's President -Elect and will be starting her term as President in 2026. She is the 2024 recipient of the Oakland University Community Engagement Award! and  the 2025 recipient of the Oakland University-School of Nursing Dean’s Faculty Excellence Award!  Kim has also been recognized as part of the leadership team and recipient of the 2025 DAISY Team Award for Nurses Advancing Health Equity!" She has been an instructor since 2006 and was an influential part of developing the Masters in Forensic Nursing program. She is a Disaster Health Service RN, Disaster Action Team, and Government Liaison member of the American Red Cross. In addition, Dr. Holka is a member of the Macomb County Health Department Medical Reserve Corps.

Josie Foley has been a dedicated member of the National Association of Hispanic Nurses (NAHN) for 20 years, actively contributing to the Michigan Chapter and serving as Chapter President from 2010 to 2014. Her commitment to advancing nursing excellence extends beyond NAHN, as she is also a member of the American Association of Occupational Health Nursing and the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. Recognized for her exceptional leadership and contributions, Josie was honored as the national recipient of the prestigious NAHNStrong 2024 Award! which celebrates her unwavering dedication to the nursing profession and the Hispanic nursing community.  Josie has also been recognized as part of the leadership team and recipient of the 2025 DAISY Team Award for Nurses Advancing Health Equity!"

Dottie Rodriguez

Dottie Rodriguez RN, MSN, ANP-BC

Dorothy “Dottie” Rodriguez has been a dedicated member of the National Association of Hispanic Nurses (NAHN) and the Michigan Chapter since 1995, serving as Michigan Chapter President from 2002 to 2006. With a BSN earned in 1987 and an MSN as a Nurse Practitioner in 1999, Dottie has built an impressive career in nursing. She began as an RN specializing in Bone Marrow Transplant, outpatient hematology-oncology, and patient education. Following her graduate studies, she worked for the Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening Program before seizing the opportunity to open a school-based health center, where she devoted 14 years to working with teens in Detroit and Waterford. In 2015, Dottie returned to a hospital-based role, covering Infectious Disease, GYN surgery, and eventually Urology, and she is now part of a private practice Urology group. Attending her first NAHN conference in New York City before graduate school was transformative, as meeting diverse nurses with advanced degrees gave her the confidence to pursue her aspirations. The reason for this was meeting nurses from across the country that was RNs, NPs, PhDs and they “looked like me”!  Her longstanding commitment to NAHN and its mission has been an inspiration for over two decades.  Dottie has been recognized as part of the leadership team and recipient of the 2025 DAISY Team Award for Nurses Advancing Health Equity!"
